Inner row from The Palace Carousel, Asbury Park, NJ. After the original Looff carousel suffered a fire in 1910, Mangels converted the carousel to an all-jumper machine and added Illions horses to the platform. The Palace was dismantled in 1989, and sold piecemeal through Guernsey's.
This horse was beautifully restored by R&F Designs (now The Carousel Works) in the glittering Coney Island style typical of M. C. Illions, with gold leaf mane, bright colors, and gold and silver leaving on the trappings. The body is done in subtle dappling.
Price: $7,000
